We are a practice of consulting civil and structural engineers based in Warwick. The practice was launched in 2009 by its director, David Robinson, undertaking commissions throughout the midlands and south east but predominantly in Warwick and the surrounding area, Birmingham and North West London.
We are adept at preparing innovative designs for the structural refurbishment of buildings applying a thorough knowledge of the primary building materials, and building techniques combined with our knowledge of construction practice.
Commissions generally fall into one of three categories: –
Design – Alteration and Conversion
These can range from the calculation and specification of a single beam through to removal of primary walls, removal of columns, roof rebuilds, basement deepening and full structural restoration.
Design – New Build
These involve complete buildings or small multi building developments including access roads, hard-standings, drainage and retaining walls.
Inspection and Investigation
These relate to the assessment of structural defects including establishing probable causes and effective remedial measures for which we aim to exercise as light a hand as practicable.
David is the Principal Director.
David has worked as a civil engineer specialising in building structures since 1976 and became a full member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in 1986 and registered with the Engineering Council as a chartered engineer.
He has worked for Consulting Engineers, Contractors and Local Authorities before setting up Cordyline Aspire. He has been an Associate at WSP (1989 to 1994), Structural Engineering Group leader at Coventry City Council (1996 to 1998), and Structural Engineering Associate Director for Millard Consulting (2006), Waterman Civils (2006 to 2008), and Associate at Opus Joynes Pike (2008 to 2009).
Throughout his career David has worked predominantly in the fields of design, specification, inspection, assessment, and repair reinforced concrete, steel masonry and timber
He is adept in the design and detailing of reinforced concrete ranging from multi storey commercial buildings, complex foundations, basements, retaining walls, hoppers, machine bases, cancer treatment facilities, swimming and leisure pools.
David gained hands-on experience as a site engineer on the construction of a large reinforced concrete shopping centre where he was responsible for setting out, quality control of the construction, the testing regime of concrete used on the site, and logistical planning of steel reinforcement deliveries.
The form of the cordyline with its central stem and splayed arching head is to be found in abundance in traditional, classical and contemporary architecture alike. For us, it symbolises the link between the built environment and the natural world.
Like the Cordyline, buildings can be robust when new, but become fragile over time or under severe or harsh conditions.
